Math for Children

What is the MathRiders Methodology all about?

  • Our students benefit from a highly evolved combination of methodologies that transform mathematics from dry theory, into a vibrant part of their everyday lives. The MathRiders programs are based on the following important principles:
      Math enrichment
    1. Appreciation: Mathematics is all around us - so why are children taught to ignore it? MathRiders reveals to students of all ages the beauty and logic of mathematics they can find just about anywhere; in music and rhyme, architecture and art, science and engineering, law and journalism, or in the awesome symmetry of nature.
    2. Encouragement: Young people are naturally motivated to investigate and explore, however if discouraged, or made to feel inferior, this love of learning can cease. Our expertly trained teachers are caring, devoted professionals that students easily relate to. Teaching takes place in an environment of trust, patience and cooperation designed to boost self-respect and confidence.
    3. Assessment: Skill levels are monitored by ongoing testing and evaluation of student's progress. This gives both teachers and students an accurate picture of areas to work on, avoids redundancy, and maximizes the actual learning time with the teacher. Because students share the evaluation process, they develop a belief in their own abilities to overcome problems and grow. This system stretches students' learning capacity without overwhelming them.
    4. Partnership: No student does it alone. They learn with the kind support of a teacher who is part private tutor and part coach. They are also a valued member of a group, engaging in cooperative studies and enjoyable interaction. Parents too are invited to become part of the support system. Students are partners in determining their own studies and progress, equipping them to be independent, life-long Math learners.
  • Do our students understand these principles?
The answer is emphatically YES! They not only get it, but love learning in their special MathRiders environment; based on openness and encouragement, student participation and responsibility, creativity and self-expression, confidence-building group fun, and indisputable individual achievement.
